Personal Statement
I was once uncertain about myself and kept
wondering how could I learn well and stand out
of my classmates. Great interest has been
driving me running on the way. Undoubtedly, a
competent student should be very acquainted with
knowledge and information in his domain. My
solution is to find the inner-relation between
sections even subjects, through which my
understanding is promoted steadily. On the other
hand, practice, on which I am willing to spend
most of my spare time, not only helped me a lot
in proving what I learnt from books, but also
inspired me and added on my confidence.
Gradually I developed my own way of study, which
always produce amazing effects and helped me
turn from an average student to an outstanding
one. And now ranking top 10% students, I am
awarded many scholarships.
I equipped myself with the basic knowledge of
English, Mathematics and Computer Science in
Hunan University,
which is one of the key universities in P. R.
China and especially famous for its engineering.
And my academic basis
is even enhanced by several programs in which my
roles range from requirement analyst to project
manager, to architecture designer, to
programmer. Even in the most favorable
circumstances frustrations set in: deviation of
the requirements analysis, conflict between team
members, improper adoption of developing tools
etc. However we nearly accomplished every task
within the allotted time, which I think is due
to the cohesion in a team. Taking the Image
Processing System as an example which we
finished last semester, we argued about the
developing tool and two points of view clashed:
Matlab and Microsoft Visual Studio. The Image
Processing Toolbox extends the basic
capabilities of Matlab by providing a number of
specialized I/O, displaying, and processing
functions for Image Processing such as image
file reading and writing, filtering,
segmentation, feature extraction etc; As a
powerful tool
strongly
supported
by Windows Operating Systems, VS seems very
flexible with its free memory access and
convenient system calls. Finally those behind VS
compromised considering the small scale of our
system and the
convenience brought by Matlab.
This decision was proved to be right and our
final system seems very satisfying.
Meanwhile we surprisedly found our ability to
think, reason, judge, analyze and synthesize is
improved bit by bit.
At the beginning of the 4th year, I
got the opportunity to intern in an information
equipment company. My responsibilities include
promoting and testing the
systems embedded in products of the company.
I felt what a difference between my classmates
and current colleagues. As professional
engineers with several years of experience, my
colleagues radiate their wisdom. I happily learn
from them and accumulate my own wisdom. The work
I am now busily engaged in is to develop the
communication protocols between PC and our
products.
Other than a more focused and critical way of
thinking, I develop myself into a rich
personality and comprehensive interests. I like
basketball, which I think is not only a source
of entertainment but also an approach to release
myself sometimes, and I like arts and music,
which show me a fancy world and refine my soul.
By now, with narrowed and focused research
interest in Information and Communication
Technology, I am eager to continue my
postgraduate study at
SUNY Potsdam,
whose
Information and Communication Technology
department is of world
class excellence in teaching and research. Quite
surely my interest will drive me go further and
further. |
